Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC)
mayor Atiqul Islam has been acquitted of several charges including possession
of the property.
Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed the order on Tuesday (October 19).
Earlier, a man named Md Abdur Rahim
filed the case under Section 25/29 of the Digital Security Act-2018. The judge
later dismissed the case after taking the plaintiff's statement.
According to the statement of case,
Mayor Atiqul was accused of possessing the property of the plaintiff,
publishing offensive, false, intimidating and defamatory information about the
plaintiff and his family in various media through digital devices. Although a
legal notice was sent by the plaintiff on September 12, the defendant did not
reply. The case was filed in the Cyber Tribunal under Section 25/29 of the
Digital Security Act without receiving a reply to the notice.
