Due to unavoidable reasons, the toll considered to be raised in the second phase on Bangabandhu Bridge is not being implemented. It was supposed to be effective from 12 noon on Monday (November 15).

Executive Engineer of Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office Ahsanul Kabir Pavel confirmed this information last night.

He said, ‘The collection of additional toll announced by the government was to start from 12 noon on Monday (November 15) from the vehicles plying on Bangabandhu Bridge. All kinds of preparations were made on that occasion. However, due to unavoidable reasons, the ministry has instructed not to start extra toll collection activities at night. As a result, the additional toll is not being collected from transport.

He added that drivers will be able to cross the bridge at the same rate as before. No instructions have been given as to when it will be implemented.

Earlier on November 2, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a notification regarding the increase in toll collection at Bangabandhu Bridge. This information was given in the circular signed by the Deputy Secretary (Development) of the Ministry Mohammad Anwarul Naser. It directed the implementation of new toll rates for Bangabandhu Bridge and Muktarpur Bridge (6th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge). The collection of toll at the new rate will start from 12:05 pm on November 16, 2021. There was talk of increasing the toll rate by 20 to 30 percent.

Toll fee was increased at Bangabandhu Bridge in 2011. Since then, toll has been levied on motorcycles at Tk 40, light vehicles (cars, jeeps) at Tk 500, small buses at Tk 650, big buses at Tk 900, small trucks at Tk 850, medium trucks at Tk 1,100 and large trucks at Tk 1,250 to 1,400.
