A sexagenarian was killed as a
garbage truck of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) hit him in front of
Rajdhani Super Market under Wari Police Station in Old Dhaka this morning.
The deceased was identified as
Swapan Kumar Sarkar, 61. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)'s Wari Police Station
Sub-Inspector (SI) Uzzal Hossain confirmed the matter to the media.
"Although Swapan Kumar's
village home is in Nabinagar Police Station of Brahmanbaria, he is currently
living in the Gandaria area of the capital," the SI added.
He said the accident took place
when the truck hit Swapan in front of the market around 7 am as he was crossing
the road.
Following the accident, Swapan
was found bleeding and dead on the street, the SI said.
Being informed, police rushed to
the spot and recovered the body and brought it to the police station.
However, the driver escaped with
the killer truck. "Law enforcers are trying to nab the driver," he continued.
The police official further said
the dead body has been kept at the morgue of Sir Salimullah Medical College
Mitford Hospital (SSMCMH) for autopsy.
Preparations are underway to take
legal action in this regard.
