Hasan Foez Siddique is the
23rd Chief Justice of the country. After the official notification, President
Advocate Mohammad Abdul Hamid will administer the oath at Bangabhaban.
Incumbent Chief Justice
Syed Mahmud Hossain will retire on Thursday. Because the next day he will step
68 years.
Article 96 (1) of the
Constitution states that subject to the other provisions of this Article, a
judge shall remain in office until he attains the age of sixty-seven years.
According to Supreme Court
sources, Justice Muhammad Iman Ali will retire on December 31, 2022, Justice Hasan
Foez Siddique on September 25, 2023, Justice Mohammad Nuruzzaman on June 30,
2023, and Justice Obaidul Hasan on January 10, 2026.
Justice Syed Mahmud
Hossain was sworn in as the 22nd Chief Justice on February 3, 2018, following
the much-discussed resignation of the country's 21st Chief Justice Surendra
Kumar Sinha. Syed Mahmud Hossain is retiring on December 30, 2021 after 47
months as Chief Justice. He will be replaced by Justice Hasan Foez Siddique.
