Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said the number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen alarmingly. Strict restrictions will be imposed in the next couple of days as per the proposal of the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) to control the outbreak.

He said the number of coronavirus cases in the country is 400 times more than before. However, the situation has not yet been like the closure of educational institutions. If the rate of infection increases further, a decision will be taken in this regard.

He said this while distributing winter clothes at Shuvro Center in Garpara, Manikganj on Saturday (January 6) at noon.

Zahid Maleque said that hygiene rules are not being maintained in business establishments and the transports including the ongoing Union Parishad (UP) elections. This is very worrying. If the rules are not followed, the country will be threatened by the Coronavirus.

He said the government has taken some steps to control Coronavirus. Nurses and doctors of district and upazila level hospitals are ready to provide services. All types of shops have to be closed by 8 pm. No one can enter restaurant without vaccination certificate. It has been decided to carry half the passengers in all the transports including passenger bus-train-launch. Instructions will be issued soon to implement this decision.

He said the wheel of the economy is still turning as coronavirus infection is under control in the country. Production activities are normal in the mills. Students can go to school-college. In order to maintain this condition, everyone has to follow the hygiene rules.

He warned that the mobile court would impose jail-fines on those who go out without a mask, adding that "as the rate of coronavirus infection increases, we will be strict in adhering to hygiene rules. Mobile courts will be conducted if necessary to comply with hygiene rules.

The health minister claimed that coronavirus infection is on the rise in many countries of the world, but the infection is still under control in the country. Bangladesh is in a better position than other countries in terms of Omicron infection. Omicron has infected up to 1 lakh people in the United Kingdom and up to 4 lakh people in the United States. We do not want this situation in our country. If you want to keep the country safe, you have to follow the health rules.
