She further added, whether the Vice-Chancellor can remain in office or not that is under the President's authority.

The Education Minister has started the briefing at 7:30 pm on Wednesday (January 26) at the official residence on Hare Road in the capital.

Students have been protesting in front of the Vice-Chancellor's residence since January 18 demanding his resignation.

24 students started hunger strike at the same place from last Wednesday. Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed has been under blockade since January 16 due to students taking position in front of the residence.

Earlier, the protest started on the night of January 13 against the provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Student Hall for misconduct. Later, the police attacked the protesting students. Since then, the movement has been demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor.

The students broke their fast in the presence of former professor of the university Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife Professor Yasmin Haque at around 10:15 am on Wednesday. However, the students said that the movement will continue.

Earlier, students who had fallen ill to break the fast also joined the protesters on campus from the hospital.
