Mentioning the
Sutdents' demands are logical, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that
all the demands of the students of Shahjalal University of Science and
Technology (SUST) will be implemented.
She made the remarks
at a press briefing on the SUST protest issue on Wednesday (January 26).
The education
minister said, "The students' movement is logical. We will implement all
their demands. There will be no case in their name. I thank them as they have
broken their fast. "
She further added, whether the Vice-Chancellor
can remain in office or not that is under the President's authority.
The Education
Minister has started the briefing at 7:30 pm on Wednesday (January 26) at the
official residence on Hare Road in the capital.
Students have been
protesting in front of the Vice-Chancellor's residence since January 18
demanding his resignation.
24 students started
hunger strike at the same place from last Wednesday. Vice-Chancellor Farid
Uddin Ahmed has been under blockade since January 16 due to students taking
position in front of the residence.
Earlier, the protest
started on the night of January 13 against the provost of Begum Sirajunnesa
Chowdhury Student Hall for misconduct. Later, the police attacked the
protesting students. Since then, the movement has been demanding the resignation
of the Vice-Chancellor.
The students broke their fast in the presence of former professor of the university Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife Professor Yasmin Haque at around 10:15 am on Wednesday. However, the students said that the movement will continue.
Earlier, students
who had fallen ill to break the fast also joined the protesters on campus from
the hospital.
