Search Committee Will Hold Meetings with Eminent Citizens

The first meeting of the 6-member search committee to form the 13th Election Commission has ended. After the meeting, the chairman of the search committee, Justice Obaidul Hassan of the Appellate Division, said that the search committee would hold meetings with eminent citizens of the country to form an EC. Their advice will be taken. Opinions of political parties will also be taken via email.

The meeting began at 4:30 pm on Sunday (February 6) at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge. The meeting lasted for an hour and a half.

According to the law, the time required for the search committee to finalize the names for the formation of the Election Commission is 15 working days. The committee will recommend a total of 10 names for each post. The president will then finalize the names of the chief election commissioner and four other commissioners.

According to the 'Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act-2022', a search committee was formed by a presidential order on Saturday and a notification was issued.

The term of the current Election Commission (EC) headed by KM Nurul Huda will end on February 14.
