Tareq Muhammad Iftekhar, a student of the Mechanical Engineering
Department, was supposed to go to his brother's house in Badda from Dr. MA
Rashid Hall of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
After leaving the hall on Monday afternoon, he no longer reached his brother's
house.
The phone number he used is also blocked.
Iftekhar was not found in the last three days by relatives,
friends, and acquaintances.
Iftekhar's brother Abul Kalam Azad filed a general diary
with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at Chawkbazar Police Station on
Wednesday.
He mentioned in his general diary that Iftekhar left the
hall on March 14 at around 4 pm. But he did not go to his brother's house that
day. As he did not go the next day, his cousin Tariq Muhammad Irfan called
Iftekhar's number. After getting the number closed, relatives and friends
searched for him. Iftekhar was not found anywhere.
Chawkbazar police sub-inspector Mohammad Nuruddin is
investigating the general diary. "I saw CCTV footage of him leaving the
hall," he said. "He went out alone. But as the campus was closed,
footage of where he went was not found. I am trying to trace the way forward by
contacting the concerned people."
Iftekhar had a phone in the hall room. He went out with
another phone. The number taken with him was diverted to the phone number left
in the hall. That is why the Chawkbazar police cannot be sure where his last
location was.
"We are trying our best to find out his
whereabouts," said Sub-Inspector Nuruddin.
