The Ministry of Agriculture has
formed a four-member committee to probe into the 'suicide' of two farmers in
Rajshahi due to a lack of irrigation water. The newly formed committee will have
to submit its report within a week.
The joint secretary of the ministry
Md Abu Jubayer Hossain Bablu has been made the convener of this committee. The
other members of the committee are Rajshahi District Commissioner and
Magistrate Abdul Jalil, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC)
Natore Executive Engineer Mohammad Sajjad Hossain and Barind Multipurpose
Development Authority (BMDA) Naogaon Executive Engineer Mohammad Shamser Ali.
The ministry said the committee
was formed on the basis of two reports published by two media outlets on March
24 and 26, respectively.
Agriculture Secretary Mohammad Sayedul
Islam said at a function at the secretariat on Tuesday (March 29) that the
committee has been asked to submit an investigation report within the next
seven working days. The committee has gone to the spot at the moment. They are
investigating, as well as the police.

Hemram filed a case alleging incitement to suicide. It is said that two people commit
suicide by drinking poison after not getting irrigation water in the paddy field.
