The High Court has directed all educational institutions in
the country to take necessary steps within 30 days to stop vulgar, obscene,
insane, and offensive activities in the name of observing 'Rag Day'.
This instruction has been given to the defendants including the Education Secretary, Information Secretary, Culture Secretary, and Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The High Court bench comprising Justice Md Mojibur Rahman
Mia and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order on Sunday with a preliminary
hearing of a writ petition.
On April 7, Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Kamrul Hasan filed
the writ petition. In court, he himself appeared for the writ petition. Deputy
Attorney General Bipul Bagmar represented the state.
Later, lawyer Kamrul Hasan told the media that in the name
of observing 'Rag Day' in all educational institutions, the rule asked why the
inaction of the defendants should not be declared illegal in stopping nude,
obscene, vulgar, and offensive activities including DJ party.
Kamrul Hasan further said that 13 defendants including the Education Secretary, Information Secretary, Culture Secretary, Chairman of
University Grants Commission, and Inspector General of Police have been asked
to respond to the rule within four weeks.
