Bangladesh, Singapore Pledge to Further Deepen Bilateral Relations

Bangladesh and Singapore on Monday pledged to further deepen and expedite the bilateral ties while the two Asian nations marking the 50 years of establishing bilateral relations.

The pledge was made while Bangladesh foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen held a bilateral meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Dr Vivian Balakrishnan in Singapore city, BSS reports.

During the meeting, Dr Momen urged the Singapore government to keep international pressure on Myanmar to resolve the Rohingya crisis.

He also sought Singapore government's support to expedite the process of Bangladesh inclusion in the ASEAN forum as sectoral dialogue partner.

In reply, the Singaporean foreign minister reiterated his government support in these regards.

Dr Momen also underscored to sign the free trade agreement (FTA) between Bangladesh and Singapore to expansion of trade and commerce relations between the two countries.

The Bangladesh foreign minister expressed his gratitude to the Singapore government and its people as the National University Singapore decided to commence award in the name of Bangabandhu.

Dr Momen is now in Singapore on a three-day official visit at the invitation of the Singaporean government.
