Shops in the New Market area reopened on Thursday (April 21) after being closed for two days due to clashes between traders and Dhaka College students. Besides, the traffic in the area has also become normal.

However, despite the relief of opening the shop, there is still concern among the traders as to whether there will be any new tension.

In a meeting held late on Wednesday (April 20), it was decided to open the shop on the basis of mutual agreement between the students and the logical demands of the students, said Prof Nehal Ahmed, Director General, Directorate of Secondary & Higher Education. On this basis, the shops of New Market have started opening today.

A few shops opened in New Market around 10 am today. Preparations are underway to open other shops. However, Chandrima Market adjacent to Dhaka College, Nurjahan Market, and Globe Shopping Center on the opposite side were completely closed. Some shops have been opened in Gauchia Market. The sidewalk shops in front of this market have also started opening.

It has been seen on the spot that all types of vehicles are moving normally. Traffic is moving on both the roads from Nilkhet to Science Lab.

Although the situation is normal, there is enough police personnel deployed on both sides of the road. Armored vehicles have been kept since morning. However, no one from law enforcement has spoken about it.

Last Monday (April 18) evening, a clash broke out between the students of Dhaka College at around 12 pm due to a quarrel between the employees of two shops near Gate No. 4 of New Market. Nahid Mia, a courier service worker, was killed and more than 50 others, including a journalist, were injured in the clashes.

A shop worker named Mursalin, who was hit by a brick in the clash on Tuesday, also died this morning while undergoing treatment.
