At least three pillion riders, including a child, were
killed and another injured in a tripartite collision between two motorcycles
and a tractor in Rajshahi's Paba Upazila.
The accident took place in the Naohata area on the
Rajshahi-Naogaon highway of the Upazila around 10:30 am on Sunday (May 15).
According to police and fire service personnel, the incident
took place when two motorcycles coming from opposite directions and a tractor
heading on the side of the road collided head-on.
The deceased were identified as Bithi Begum, 33, her
daughter Maryam Jannat, 4, and Abdul Mannan, 48, son of Moyez Uddin Mandal of
Naogaon Manda Upazila.
Bithi Begum's husband Akhter (35) is undergoing treatment at
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Their home is in Chandipur village of Niamatpur
Upazila of Naogaon district.
Paba Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farid Hossain said four
people on two motorcycles were coming from the opposite direction on the
highway. Suddenly a tractor loaded with mud collided head-on with a motorcycle
as it recklessly climbed the road. Two people, including a child, died on the
spot. Later, firefighters rescued the other two and admitted them to Rajshahi
Medical College Hospital, where the child's mother died. One is still
undergoing treatment.
He further said that the driver left the tractor and fled.
Police have already launched an operation to nab him. No case has been
registered in this regard yet. Necessary action will be taken in case of case.
