The dream Padma bridge has been opened for traffic. About 18 hours after the inauguration, traffic on the Padma Bridge resumed at 6 am on Sunday (June 26). There were long queues of vehicles at both ends of the Padma Bridge from night.

Earlier on Saturday (June 25) at 11:58 am, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the plaque of the bridge at the Mawa end of Munshiganj.

Bangladesh's long-cherished dream has come true as a result of the inauguration of the longest bridge facing financial, engineering and political three-pronged challenges.

As soon as the bridge was opened for traffic, 14 toll gates on both sides were opened. Toll is being collected manually at all the gates. With the prescribed toll, any vehicle except three-wheeler can cross the Padma Bridge.

The Padma Bridge, built entirely with internal funding, has added significance, dispelling the skepticism of many economic analysts about building bridges based on the country's own funds.

From today, people in the south-west will leave the nightmare of the ferry wharf and go directly to Dhaka by road in just 6 minutes across the bridge.

The dream bridge has not only established the long-awaited direct road and rail link between the capital Dhaka and the south-west of the country, it has opened the door to greater connectivity and trade between Asian countries.

After announcing the inauguration, the Prime Minister crossed the bridge with the toll of his car. Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina had to pay 750 rupees as toll.

The toll rate on the bridge has already been fixed. Toll will be Rs 1400 for minibus, Rs 2000 for medium bus and Rs 2400 for big bus. Toll for small truck is 1800 rupees, for medium truck 2100-2600 rupees, for big truck 5500 rupees. Pickup toll is 1200 rupees.

The toll for cars and jeeps has been fixed at Tk 650 and for microbuses at Tk 1,300. If you want to cross the Padma bridge with a motorcycle, you have to pay 100 rupees.

Most of the buses plying through the Padma Bridge will leave from the Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal in Dhaka.
