The tides in the Bay of Bengal
rose by more than five feet. Terrible waves crashing on the shore. The sea
becomes very rough due to depression. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted
floods in such a situation.
It is known that till Thursday
(August 11) 15 villages of Jhalkathi have already been submerged in tidal
water. And the wind pressure has increased a lot in Kuakata of Patuakhali. It
is raining intermittently. The Meteorological Department has asked coastal
areas to be on alert number three. Besides, the department has asked all
fishing trawlers to anchor in safe harbor.
The department said that the low
pressure located on the coast of Odisha and adjacent areas has moved westward
and weakened and is now located in Chhattisgarh and adjacent areas of India in
a clear form. It may move further north-westwards. Due to this, there is an
excess of air pressure difference in the northern Bay of Bengal and the coastal
areas of Bangladesh. Sea ports, North Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Bangladesh
are likely to experience gale force winds.
Already, Cox's Bazar has been
asked to show local warning signal number three. Low-lying areas of the coastal
district of Cox's Bazar may be inundated with wind-driven tides two to four
feet above the normal tide under the influence of pronounced low pressure and
pressure differentials. Fishing boats and trawlers have been asked to exercise
caution near the coast until further notice.
