Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram Mominur Rahman is being relieved from the post of Returning Officer on charges of 'biased behaviour'. Election Commissioner Begum Rasheda Sultana gave this information in response to the questions of journalists at her office in Agargaon's election building on Sunday (September 18) at noon.
Earlier, DC Mominur Rahman was
accused of participating in prayers with the party leaders for the victory of
the candidate of the Awami League in the Chattogram District Parishad elections in
violation of the election rules.
Lawyer Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman
Khan sent a legal notice on Saturday (September 17) requesting action against
the DC within 24 hours.
It is known that September 15 was
the last day for submission of nomination papers for the Zilla Parishad elections.
On this day, Awami League's nominated chairman candidate ATM Payrul Islam went
to the district commissioner's office to submit his nomination papers with his
leaders and activists in the Chattogram district council elections. Meanwhile,
Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman participated
in prayer with party leaders wishing the candidate victory.
At one point, he sat the Awami
League candidate next to him and addressed the Awami League leaders. In that
speech, he said that BNP-Jamaat should also pray for the victory of the Awami
League in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
