The Election Commission (EC) has dismissed Chattogram Deputy
Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman from the duty of Returning Officer on
charges of biased behavior in violation of election rules. Chattogram Regional
Election Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman has been appointed in his place.
This information was given in a notification signed by Atiar
Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, on Sunday
(September 18). Earlier in the afternoon, Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana
informed about the decision to remove Mominur Rahman, Returning Officer of Chattogram
Zilla Parishad Election.
It is known that September 15 was the last day for
submission of nomination papers for Zilla Parishad elections. On this day,
Awami League's nominated chairman candidate ATM Payrul Islam went to the
district commissioner's office to submit his nomination papers with his leaders
and activists in Chattogram district council elections. Meanwhile, Returning
Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman participated in prayer
with party leaders wishing the candidate victory.
At one point, he sat the Awami League candidate next to him
and addressed the Awami League leaders. In that speech, he said that BNP-Jamaat
should also pray for the victory of Awami League in the upcoming parliamentary
elections.
Lawyer Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan sent a legal notice on
Saturday (September 17) requesting action against the DC within 24 hours.
