US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas considers political violence as a major obstacle in the way of fair elections.

Noting that the United States does not support any specific political party in Bangladesh, he said that the United States wants free and fair elections with the participation of all parties. Such an election is the responsibility of the government, political parties, civil society and all parties involved. An acceptable election will not be possible if any party fails to perform their duties properly.

He said these things while participating in the regular monthly luncheon of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) on Wednesday (September 28).

AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed presided over the event. Some former ministers, bureaucrats, teachers, researchers and media representatives were present on the occasion.

In addition to the political views of the United States, the US ambassador spoke on various issues including labor security, investment, and Myanmar issues.
