The court has issued an arrest warrant against Shamima Nasrin, the chairperson of the e-commerce
company Evaly.
Dhaka's
cyber tribunal judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain denied his bail and
issued an arrest warrant.
The
cyber tribunal gave this order on October 19, but today (October 26) the matter
came to light.
Shamim
Al Mamun, bench assistant of the tribunal, confirmed the matter and said that
October 19 was the date for receiving the charge sheet of the case. On that
day, Shamima applied for time through the lawyer without appearing in the
court. The court rejected the time plea and issued an arrest warrant against
her. At the same time, the court set a date for the hearing of the charge sheet
on January 22.
On
September 30, 2021, a customer named Alamgir Hossain filed a case against
Russel and Shamima of Evely under the Digital Security Act at Badda Police
Station on the charge of embezzlement through digital media.
According
to the statement of the case, the plaintiff came to know about Evaly through
various social media including Facebook in early 2020. Various daily
necessities including electronic products are offered at low prices. He opened
separate accounts with two mobile numbers through Evaly's apps. He ordered
various products worth approximately 5 lakh taka with his ID. He opened another
ID in the name of a friend and ordered various products worth 23 lakh taka. He
ordered a total of Tk 28 lakhs with two IDs and paid through Bkash/Nagad and
various bank accounts. But the Evaly authorities did not deliver the ordered
products within the stipulated 45 working days. Even after 7 months he did not get
the ordered products. After contacting Evaly authorities several times in this
regard, they promised to deliver the product and delayed it.
It is
further stated in the statement that the accused have embezzled money from
numerous common people across the country by deceiving them through digital
means of delivering products at low prices.
After
the investigation, CID sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar Das filed a charge sheet
against Russel and Shamima on September 16 this year.
