BIU University Student Killed As Bus Hits Motorcycle in Jatrabari

A university student riding a motorcycle died after being hit by a bus at Jatrabari in the capital. Two of his classmates were seriously injured in this incident. They were on the same motorcycle.

The deceased was identified as Omar Faruque Palak, 23, a student of Bangladesh Islamic University (BIU) in the capital’s Mugda. One of the injured was identified as Jewel Rana, however, another one has not been identified yet.

The accident took place at the Bhanga Press area in Jatrabari on Thursday (February 23) morning. 

When the victims were taken to the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, the doctor in charge declared Omar Faruque Palak dead around 10:30 am.

An eyewitness said that he saw them lying in a bloody state along with the motorcycle at the Bhanga Press area in Jatrabari’s ​​Demra road. Later, they were taken to the hospital with the help of locals. “From the locals, I learned that a bus hit their motorcycle,” he added.

Jewel Rana, who was injured in this accident, said that he lives in the capital’s Narinda area and Palak lives in Keraniganj’s Zinzira. They are first-year students of the BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) department at Bangladesh Islami University (BIU in Mugda. They were going to the university on Palak’s motorcycle in the morning. The accident took place on the way.

Jatrabari police station OC Md. Mofizul Alam said that a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a bus, but the bus could not be identified.
