Case Pleaded Against 9 Cops Including 2 ADCs

A case has been filed against 9 police officers including Additional Commissioner of Police Muhit Kabir of Kotwali Zone for attacking the rally of pro-BNP lawyers.

Mohsin Mia, the former president of the Dhaka Bar, filed the case as a plaintiff in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman on Wednesday morning (September 20). A hearing will be held in this regard in a while.

Others who have been requested to be accused in the case are - ADC of Lalbagh Zone Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Shahinur Rahman Shaheen, Officer-in-Charge (Operation) Nazmul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mehdi Hasan, SI Md. Shahabuddin Howladar, Constable Md. Mahabub Alam, Abdur Rashid and Ramzan Mollah.

In addition, a request has been made to make more unidentified policemen accused in the case.

It is said in the application that on September 12, the Dhaka bar unit of United Lawyers Front organized a march to demand voting rights, restoration of democracy, and Khaleda Zia's release. Around 12 noon, they were marching from Dhaka Lawyers' Association towards CMM Court. At that time, when they went to the main road, the police stopped them, abused them in obscene language, and behaved indecently. When the women lawyers who were at the front of the rally asked to know the reason, the police started beating the lawyers brutally.

Some women lawyers were injured and molested. At that time, when the male lawyers who were behind came forward, the police attacked them too. Several people including senior lawyers were injured.

It is also alleged in the plea that the accused attacked the lawyers in connivance with the intention of killing them and inflicting serious bloody injuries on them.
