Habibur Rahman Made New DMP Commissioner

Habibur Rahman has been appointed as Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) by the government. Earlier he was working as Additional IG of Tourist Police.

The current DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq's tenure will end on September 30. In that case, Habibur Rahman is scheduled to join as the new commissioner on October 1.

This appointment was announced in a notification signed by Sirajam Munira, Deputy Secretary, Public Security Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, on Wednesday (September 20) by order of the President. In the public interest, this order will come into effect immediately, the notification said.

Habibur Rahman started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the 17th BCS cadre in 1998. He served as Deputy Commissioner of DMP Headquarters, Superintendent of Police of Dhaka District, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range, and several important posts in Police Headquarters.

Habibur Rahman was born on January 1, 1967, in a noble Muslim family in Chandra Dighalia village of Sadar police station in Gopalganj. He has received the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) twice and the President's Police Medal (PPM) twice in recognition of his integrity, bravery, and efficiency at work.

Apart from professional work, this police officer is involved in various social activities including writing. In 2018, Habibur Rahman edited a book titled 'The First Resistance in Liberation War' highlighting the role of the police in the Great War of Liberation.

Apart from the Bede community, Habibur Rahman has taken initiatives to rehabilitate the sex workers and transgenders of Rajbari's Daulatdia. He has also started working for the children of a sex village in Daulatdia. There he established an organization called Uttaran Foundation. He was also instrumental in setting up the Police Liberation War Museum at Telecom Bhaban in Rajarbagh Police Lines. He is the General Secretary of the Kabaddi Federation.
