Results Of 2nd Phase Upazila Polls

The results of the second phase of the Upazila Parishad election in the chairman posts were announced by the returning officers and district election officers of various districts unofficially on Tuesday night (May 21).

Dhaka Division

Manikganj district Awami League’s vice president Abdur Rahim Khan in Shivalaya upazila, district Jubo League joint convener Mahbubur Rahman in Ghior and upazila Chhatra League's former general secretary Md Shafiqul Islam was elected in Daulatpur upazila. In Rajbari, upazila Awami League president Md Mostafa Munshi in Goalanda upazila, upazila Awami League’s joint general secretary Ehsanul Hakim in Baliakandi. In Madaripur’s Kalkini, upazila Awami League’s general secretary Taufiquzzaman Shaheen was elected chairman.

In Faridpur’s Nagarkanda upazila, former assistant secretary of Awami League's central sub-committee Kazi Shah Zaman, and former general secretary of Gatti union Awami League Wadud Matubbar won in Saltha upazila. Mokarim Sardar, known as a supporter of BNP, has won in Kishoreganj's Nikli, Awami League leader Moinuzzaman in Katiadi upazila and Mostajabi League’s central leader AFM Masuk Nazim won in Ashtagram.

Upazila Awami League member Md Kabir Mia has won in Muksudpur of Gopalganj. Upazila Awami League president Md Moktar Hossain won in Kashiani upazila. Ariful Islam Halder, son of the late president of upazila Awami League, Joglul Halder, won in Munshiganj's Tongibari upazila, and BM Soeb, joint general secretary of upazila Awami League, won in Louhajanj upazila of the district.

Chattogram Division

Upazila Jubo League convener Humayun Kabir won in Chandpur Sadar upazila, upazila Awami League president Helal Uddin Miyaji in Hajiganj and Awami League leader Maqbul Hossain Patwari in Shahrasti were elected unofficially. In Brahmanbaria, upazila Awami League vice president Saidur Rahman won in Kasba and former convener of upazila Jubo League Monir Hossain was elected in Akhaura upazila.

Didarul Alam, organising secretary of district Awami League, won in Khagrachari Sadar, Chandra Deb Chakma of UPDF won in Panchari and independent candidate Dharmajyoti Chakma won in Dighinala upazila. Awami League president Abu Taleb won in Eidgaon upazila of Cox's Bazar and Shafayet Aziz, expelled leader of BNP, won in Pekua. Birottam Tanchangya, president of Jana Samhati Samity, won in Rangamati's Bilaichhari, upazila Awami League president Ubach Marma won in Rajasthali and upazila Jubo League president Md Nasir Uddin won in Kaptai upazila.

Noakhali-2 constituency’s lawmaker Morshed Alam’s son Saiful Alam won in Senbag upazila, upazila Awami League president Jahangir Kabir won in Chatkhil and upazila Awami League general secretary AFM Babul won in Sonaimuri upazila. Awami League's Mustafa Zaman was elected as Lama upazila of Bandarban and Tofail Ahmad, former leader of BNP, was elected in Naikhongchhari.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan's brother-in-law Hamid Latif Bhuiyan was elected chairman in Cumilla's Barura upazila, Comilla city Awami League's organising secretary Md Abdul Hai  won in Sadar South and city Awami League’s member Aminul Islam was elected unopposed in Adarsha Sadar.

Khulna Division

Upazila Jubo League president Bulbul Ahmed Chowdhury was elected in Kushtia’s Daulatpur, upazila Awami League president Mohammad Abdul Halim won in Mirpur, upazila Awami League president Abdul Mannan Khan in Kumarkhali and pourashava Awami League president Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal was elected unopposed in Bheramara upazila. Chuadanga district Jubo League convener Naeem Hasan Zoardar won in Sadar upazila and upazila Chhatra League’s former joint general secretary KM Manjilur Rahman won in Alamdanga.

Sekh Wahiduzzaman, convener of the suspended committee of upazila Jubo League, won in Bagerhat’s Fakirhat upazila, upazila Jubo League’s former president Abu Zafar Md Alamgir Hossain won in in Chitalmari upazila and upazila Awami League general secretary Shahinul Alam Sana won in Mollahat. Upazila Awami League vice president Azizur Rahman Bhuiyan won in Narail Sadar and AKM Faizul Haque, senior vice president of upazila Awami League, won in Lohagara.

Upazila Awami League president Sheikh Akram Hossain won in Fultola of Khulna, Abul Hasan Sheikh, vice president of district Motsyojibi League in won in Terkhada and Sheikh Maruful Islam, former labor affairs secretary of District Awami League won in Dighlia. Upazila Awami League president Shyamal Kumar Dey was elected in Shalikha of Magura and upazila Awami League president Abdul Mannan won in Mohammadpur. Upazila Awami League general secretary Ghosh Sanat Kumar was elected in Asashuni of Satkhira and non-partisan Md Al Ferdows was elected in Debhata.

Mustafa Arif Reza, former general secretary of upazila Awami League won in Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa, district Awami League general secretary MA Khalek was elected in Meherpur’s Gangni, upazila Jubo League general secretary Sohrab Hossain won in Sharsha of Jashore, joint general secretary upazila Awami League Monirul Islam won in Jhikargacha upazila and upazila Awami League president SM Habibur Rahman was elected as chairman in Chougacha.

Barishal Division

District Awami League vice president Khan Arifur Rahman won in Jhalkathi Sadar, vice president of upazila Awami League Mosaref Hossain Khan won in Patuakhali’s Bauphal, upazila Awami League vice president Wana Marzia won in Galachipa and upazila Tanti League’s general secretary Md Iqbal Hossain won in Dashmin upazila.

Upazila Jatiya Party’s (JP) former president Abu Sayeed Mia was elected in Pirojpur’s Kaukhali, non-partisan Abdul Haque won in Nesarabad and upazila Awami League’s joint general secretary Khalilur Rahman won in Barguna’s Betagi upazila.

Sylhet division

Sylhet district Awami League’s deputy office secretary Mazir Uddin won in Companyganj upazila, general secretary of upazila Awami League M Liaquat Ali won in Jaintapur and district BNP’s expelled treasurer Shah Alam was elected in Gowainghat. Upazila BNP’s former general secretary Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury won in Habiganj’s Nabiganj and non-partisan candidate Mohammad Anwar Hossain won in Bahubal upazila.

Upazila Awami League’s joint general secretary Shamim Ahmed won in Dharmapasha of Sunamganj, Badaghat Union Awami League’s joint convener Aftab Uddin won in Tahirpur, former joint general secretary of upazila Awami League Rafiqul Islam Talukdar won in in Bishwambharpur and district Awami League vice president Rezaul Karim won in Jamalganj upazila.

Mymensingh Division

Unofficial results showed Awami League upazila joint general secretary Mosharraf Hossain won in Nalitabari of Sherpur, upazila president Abul Kalam Azad in Dewanganj of Jamalpur and upazila former vice president Nazrul Islam in Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj.

Rajshahi Division

Awami League district vice president Zakirul Islan was elected unofficially in Bagmara uapzila of Rajshahi, municipal general secretary Sharifuzzaman Sharif in Durgapur and Awami League’s district unit organising secretary Abdus Samad Mollah in Puthia uapzila.

Awami League Upazila president Sirajul Islam Khan alias Raju Khan was elected in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura while upazila former joint general secretary Hasanuzzaman in Joypurhat Sadar uapazila, former upazila joint general secretary Mirza Rezaul Karim in Chatmohar of Pabna and Awami League upazila general secretary Golam Hasnain was elected in Bhangura of Pabna.

Sabikun Nahar, who has no party affiliation, won the polls in Panchbibi of Joypurhat.

In Naogaon, upazila Awami League vice president Farid Ahmed was elected in Niamatpur upazila, upazila vice president Shah Manjur Morshed Chowdhury in Porsha uapzila and upazila Awami League vice president Shahjahan Mandal in Sapahar upazila.

Rangpur Division

In Rangpur, upazila Awami League advisory council member Nur Mohammad Mondal won the polls in Pirganj upazila and upazila Awami League member Kamruzzaman won in Mithapukur. Farooq Imrul, son of late Awami League leader Shamsul Islam, was elected in Aditmari of Lalmonirhat and the district organising secretary Rakibuzzaman Ahmed Awami League in Kaliganj.

In Dinajpur, district Awami League member Abu Hussain was elected in Birganj upazila, upazila Awami League president AKM Faroque in Kaharole, upazila Awami League general secretary Afsar Ali in Bochaganj and district Awami League publicity and publication secretary AKM Mostafizur Rahman won in Birol.

Upazila Awami League general secretary Faroque Alam was elected in Boda of Panchagarh, expelled district BNP joint general secretary Riyad Arfan Sarkar in Saidpur upazila of Nilphamari, former upazila Awami League president Anshar Ali in Jaldhaka of Niphamari and upazila Jatiya Party member secretary Rashidul Islam became the chairman in Kishoreganj uapzila.

In Thakurgaon, upazila Awami League general secretary Mosharul Islam Sarkar won the polls in the Sadar upazila unofficially and upazila joint general secretary Ahmed Hossain in Ranisankail upazila. In Kurigram, upazila Awami League member Sajadur Rahman Talukdar was elected as chairman in Ulipur, upazila Jubo League member Zahid Iqbal Suhrawardy in Rajarhat and district Awami League deputy office secretary Manjurul Islam won the polls in Sadar uapazila.
