DB Chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid said important information has been received from those arrested over the killing of Jhenaidah-4 constituency MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who went missing on May 13 after going to India.
He said, Bangladeshi criminals are behind the death of Awami League MP Anwarul Azim Anar, on today.
“Police are working to nab the killers of Jhenaidah-4 constituency MP Anwarul Azim Anar. Already, several people have been arrested. We received important information from them,” he said while briefing reporters at the DB office on Minto Road in the capital on Wednesday (May 22).
“Bangladesh police are collaborating closely with the Kolkata Police and Indian authorities regarding the death of MP Anwarul Azim. We are getting important clue over his killing,” the DB chief said.
"It is a brutal murder. We are investigating whether family or financial causes, or enmity with local miscreants led to his death. We are working closely with the Indian police and getting plenty of information," he said while talking to journalists at the DB office in the capital.
The DB police are currently investigating to find out the possible motives behind this murder.
A case has been filed with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station today as the MP had departed the country for India from the Sangsad Bhaban area, he added.
He said some criminals who are involved with the crime have been arrested and others will also be brought to justice soon.
MP Anwarul Azim, who is a resident of the Nischintapur village in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah, went to West Bengal of India on May 12. He went out to see a physician the next day and did not return. Later, his severed body was recovered from a flat in New Town area of Kolkata on Wednesday (May 22).
