The first 'Cox's Bazar Special' train running on the Chattogram to Cox's Bazar route, which has been closed for a temporary period, will be launched on June 12.
Cox's Bazar Iconic Railway Station Master Golam Rabbani confirmed this information on Friday (May 31).
He said that the special train was launched at a special time considering the needs of the passengers. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the special train which will be restarted from June 12 will run for 1 week. After that this train will run as per the instructions of the railways.
Before this, in a notification on Wednesday, it was said that the train will no longer run on the Cox's Bazar route from Thursday (May 30).
Railways cites engine shortage and lack of locomasters as reasons. The train was supposed to run till June 10.
Earlier, on Tuesday (May 28), the order to stop trains came from an emergency notification signed by Assistant Chief Operating Officer (ACOPS) Eastern Railways Kamal Akhtar Hossain.
It is said in the urgent notice that the direction of movement of Cox's Bazar Special-3 and 4 train till June 10 has been given from the office of the Director General of Railways. But from the mechanical department it has been informed that there is a shortage of engines and locomasters.
That is why the Cox's Bazar special train is running till Wednesday (May 29). Train services have been canceled from May 30 (Thursday) to June 10.
Confirming the matter, Chattogram Railway Divisional Manager Saiful Islam said that the Cox's Bazar special train from the Eastern Railway Authority will be closed from last Wednesday until further instructions.
When the news of this temporary train stop spread, common people and tourists of Cox's Bazar made various comments. They said that the demand of passengers on this route was high from the beginning. The railway department was under discussion as it could not meet the demand of sufficient tickets and trains.
It should be noted that a pair of special trains were launched on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route on April 8, focusing on the Eid journey.
The train was supposed to run till April 14, excluding Eid. The train was supposed to run till June 10 by extending the time step by step.
After Eid, this train was allowed to run again from April 17 to April 28, but Cox's Bazar special train continued to run until May 20. Later, due to passenger demand on this railway, the transport department extended the time till June 10 in the second phase.
