Long Awaited Khulna-Mongla Train Service To Launch Today

Long awaited 'Mongla Commuter' is finally going to be launched today. After seven months of inauguration, this passenger train will run on the Khulna-Mongla route for the first time from Saturday (June 1). Meanwhile, the country's second-largest seaport Mongla will be connected to a rail network after 73 years of its establishment. Bangladesh Railway has already completed all preparations. But initially, only one train will run on this railway line. 4 crore taka have been spent on the construction of the railway line. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the railway virtually on November 1, 2023. Earlier, a train was run from Phultala to Mongla on 30 October 2023 on a trial basis.

In the meantime, the train schedule and fares have been fixed. The Betna Commuter train of the Khulna-Benapole route will run on this new route. Mongla-Benapole train service is starting with old coaches and engines of Betna Express.

According to a letter signed by Abdul Awal, Assistant Chief Operating Superintendent of Railway Western Region, it is said that the train will leave Benapole for Mongla at 9:30 am on June 1. The train will arrive at 12:35 PM. The train will then leave Mongla at 1 PM and reach Benapole at 4:30 PM. Trains will operate at the same time on this route on other days of the week except Tuesday. 

It also mentions that the 96/95 paid commuter train will not ply on the Phultala-Khulna-Phultala section. The train will be operated as Mongla Commuter. The number of seats on the train will be 676. This route will have a day off every Tuesday.

Railway Western General Manager Asim Kumar Talkudar said that for now the 'Betna Commuter' train will run from Benapole to Mongla Commuter Train on Benapole-Mongla route. Later there are plans to run trains on this route with another rake.

The same train will leave Benapole at 9:15 am and reach Mongla at 12:35 pm. Out of this, the new route will depart at 9:30 AM at Navaran, 9:50 AM at Jhikargacha, 10:11 AM at Jashore, 10:30 AM at Singia, 10:46 AM at Noapara, 11:46 AM at Phultala, 11:31 AM at Mohammadgarh Station, 11:50 AM at Katakhali Station, Chulka will reach Bazar at 12.00 PM and Mongla at 12:35 PM.

The train will leave Mongla at 1 PM and reach Benapole at 4:30 PM. Among them, Chulkati Bazar at 1 hour 22 minutes, Katakhari at 1 hour 40 minutes, Mohammadnagar at Khulna at 1 hour 59 minutes, Phultala at 2 hours 25 minutes, stopping at Noapara at 2 hours 32 minutes, Chengutia at 2 hours 52 minutes, Singia at 3:11 minutes, Jare at 3:30 minutes, Jhikargacha at 3:52 minutes. , will reach Navaran at 4:11 PM and Benapole at 4:30 PM.
