Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Thursday said that rice should reach to consumers with natural colour and aroma. The minister was speaking at a programme while inaugurating the Government Premix Kernel Factory in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj.
He said, “We will ensure its implementation through discussion with mill owners after Eid-ul-Azha.”
In his speech as the chief guest, Sadhan said, “Nutrients needed not to be added earlier as rice contained those naturally. Currently, rice is trimmed and polished four to five times to make it shiny, and ultimately, it has nothing left but carbohydrates.
“That rice is mixed with nutrients again and distributed. It is a waste and the government is working to stop wastage.”
He said food warehouses are being digitalised across the country, and as a result, it would be possible to know easily how much stock there is in a warehouse.
“Besides, initiatives have been taken to construct 200 silos in the country. The capacity of storage will increase following the construction,” the minister added.
