Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said that India is our political friend while China is our developmental friend. Why not take the chance for development where getting facilities? Some are having heartburn. Many are having heartburn about the government’s mega-development.

He said at the inauguration of the Hilly area’s fruit festival at the ‘Sheikh Hasina Chattogram Hills Heritage Conservation and Research Center’ at Bailey Road in the capital on Saturday (July 6).

“Our foreign policy is friendship with everyone, not malice with anyone. India has been our faithful friend since 1971. We cannot forget our friends in times of trouble,” Obaidul Quader said, asking “what have the post-75 governments achieved by having hostile relations with India for 21 years?”

He also said that after 68 years, we have managed to solve our border problem. Sheikh Hasina has solved the enclave problem. Sheikh Hasina signed the Ganges Water Treaty. Those who talk big have forgotten about the Ganges Water Treaty. This time, Sheikh Hasina did not return from India empty-handed.

“BNP wants UN intervention on Khaleda Zia's proper treatment. There is no point in showing the UN about Khaleda Zia, it is a matter of law. BNP is playing politics over Khaleda Zia’s treatment, making her a shield. They didn’t even make a movement about the treatment. Failed in the movement, BNP has now relied on the quota movement and the teachers’ movement,” said AL General Secretary.

Obaidul Quader mentioned that it will take time to complete the implementation of the peace treaty – because the most complicated problem there is land. Moreover, the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) have changed in the last 16 years. There has been extensive development in the hilly areas including communication infrastructure. If Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is there, all the problems of the hilly areas will be solved.
