Traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway came to a complete halt today (Sunday-August 4) as protesters, including madrasa students alongside students from various schools, colleges and universities, took to the streets responding to an indefinite non-cooperation movement enforced by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The protesters blocked the highway in the morning, chanting slogans against the government, which led to a complete shutdown of vehicular movement on the busy national highway.
The protest follows a statement made on Saturday (August 3) by Md. Nahid Islam, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
"We have reached the decision to demand the fall of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the end of fascism for the security of lives and the establishment of justice in society," he added.
"He went on saying, "From the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, we will soon form a united front with citizens, student organizations, and professionals from all walks of life for a student-citizen uprising. Through discussions with everyone, we will present a national framework for the future of Bangladesh."
Nahid also announced that the non-cooperation movement would continue nationwide from Sunday onward.
