The Saudi Arabian Embassy in Bangladesh resumed the issuance of visas for Bangladeshi workers on Wednesday (August 14).

"We resumed issuing visas from today. The Saudi Embassy is now providing all types of services. Under normal circumstances, we used to issue an average of 5,000 visas per day," said Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan following a courtesy meeting with Foreign Affairs adviser Mohammad Tawhid Hossain.

During the discussion with the Foreign Affairs Adviser, the ambassador emphasised the longstanding relationship between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. "We discussed various issues, including economic matters and visa issuance. We are hopeful that stability and peace will soon return to Bangladesh, allowing the country to enjoy lasting stability," he added.

Asked about the reports suggesting that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently in India, has sought asylum in Saudi Arabia, the ambassador said he had not heard anything about such claims.

The resumption of visa services marks a significant step in restoring the flow of Bangladeshi workers to Saudi Arabia, a key destination for Bangladeshi laborers. The move is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations further.
