Firearm Licences Issued To Civilians In 15yrs Suspended

The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended all firearm licences issued to civilians between 6 January 2009 and 5 August 2024.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Public Security Division on Sunday.

Civilians holding licences have to submit their firearms along with ammunition to police stations concerned by 3 September, read the notification.

The district magistrate will take appropriate action in accordance with the Arms Act, 1878 (Act XI of 1878) and the Firearms Licensing, Renewal and Use Policy 2016 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it added.
