Ex-Shipping Min Shajahan Khan Arrested

Shajahan Khan, a member of the Presidium of the Awami League and former minister, has been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He was detained late on Thursday night in the capital, Dhaka.

Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik, head of the Detective Branch (DB), confirmed the arrest.

He stated that Shajahan Khan was apprehended in the Dhaka neighborhood of Dhanmondi. Multiple cases have been filed against him.

Shajahan Khan has been elected as a Member of Parliament from the Madaripur-2 constituency for the eighth consecutive time. He is also the Executive President of the Bangladesh Labor Federation. He first became a Member of Parliament in 1986 as an independent candidate from the Madaripur-2 constituency.

He was later elected as a Member of Parliament from the same constituency under the banner of the Awami League in the elections of 1991, 1996, 2001, 2008, 2014, 2018, and most recently in 2024.
