Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, will be traveling to New York to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly from September 22 to 27, with a delegation of seven members, according to Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain.
The seven-member delegation includes Dr. Yunus’s daughter Dina Afroze Yunus, SDG Coordinator Lamia Morshed, Chair of the White Paper Committee on Bangladesh's current economic status Devapriya Bhattacharya, Managing Director of Drik Shahidul Alam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Mahfuz Alam, Personal Secretary to the Chief Adviser Shabbir Ahmed, and BRAC University student Ayesha Siddika Tithi.
Earlier, on September 1, during a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Md. Touhid Hossain confirmed that Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus will be making a brief visit to New York for the UN General Assembly.
When asked if the Chief Adviser would be attending the General Assembly, he confirmed the decision, noting that it will be a short visit. While more work could have been done in Washington, Dr. Yunus will return from New York as quickly as possible.
Regarding the meetings that will take place, the Foreign Affairs Advisor mentioned that some discussions are in progress and meetings are expected. However, specific details could not be provided, and it was noted that not all heads of state attend every event. The format of the meetings in New York will follow the usual protocol, and there are no plans for Washington.
