The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will launch investigations on Sunday into the killings by law enforcers and Awami League activists during the July-August student-led mass movement.

Newly appointed ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam made the announcement at a press briefing on the tribunal’s premises on Sunday.

Efforts will be made particularly to ensure justice against the prime suspect Sheikh Hasina after bringing her back from India, where she fled following her ouster on 5 August, Tajul noted.

The tribunal would be reconstituted for ensuring fair trial against all including the ousted prime minister and ex-police chief, Tajul told reporters.

The first task of the ICT investigators would be to collect evidence of the killings and, initially footages from media outlets would be collected. Tajul requested all to provide ICT with whatever evidence they may have.

The investigation team would issue arrest warrants against suspects, prevent the accused from leaving the country and work to bring back those absconding abroad including the former premier, he noted.
