The UN fact-finding team will begin its investigation today into the casualties caused during the anti-discrimination student movement. This information was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, September 13.
According to sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the fact-finding team arrived in Bangladesh at the invitation of the interim government. The interim government has pledged full cooperation with the team during the investigation.
Sources further revealed that during the student movement, over 800 individuals were killed, and more than a thousand people were injured. Even children inside their homes were killed by gunfire. Around 50 members of the law enforcement agencies were also killed, and various public and private institutions were set on fire. The UN fact-finding team is expected to begin its work today, starting with a meeting with either the foreign advisor or the foreign secretary.
Regarding the scope of the UN team's work, it has been learned that they will investigate incidents of human rights violations that took place between July 1 and August 15. They will review the root causes of these events and provide recommendations on long-term measures to ensure justice and accountability.
