On August 5, during the student march to Dhaka, a member of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) was identified and taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for his involvement in targeted shooting in the Chankharpul area.

The police have identified the APBN member as Mohammad Sujan Hossain. The constable of APBN-13, stationed in Uttara East, was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) police by APBN on September 13.

Following this, the DB police transferred him to Shahbagh Police Station, where he is charged under case number 9 for murder.

Confirming the matter, the Police Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Ramna Division, Md. Sarwar Jahan, stated that after a sensational video of the shooting during the student march was circulated, the accused police officer was identified and handed over to the DB police, who then transferred him to Shahbagh Police Station.

When asked whether Sujan was officially arrested, he replied that the APBN constable is currently in custody. Since arresting a member of a government force requires institutional approval, the necessary processes are underway.

It is reported that on August 5, during the student march to Dhaka, indiscriminate shooting occurred in the Chankharpul area. Despite the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation spreading, the police fired at the students, resulting in several deaths. At the time, additional Deputy Police Commissioner Akhtar Hossain was seen giving orders from the side.

A video that went viral on social media clearly shows APBN-13 constable Sujan shooting at the local people.

Additionally, it has been reported that Sujan, who is in custody, is a suspect in the murder case filed at Shahbagh Police Station. Sub-Inspector Mainul Islam Khan Pulok is investigating the case. He stated that Sujan has not yet been formally arrested. The process of obtaining permission from the police headquarters to arrest him is ongoing. An application has been submitted to the police headquarters, and once instructions are received, Sujan will be formally arrested and presented in court.
