Rangamati district administration has promulgated Section 144, banning all sorts of public gatherings, to control the situation after clashes.

The order was issued on Friday (September 20) morning after the deadly clashes left at least three person dead and 17 injured.

Three people were killed in clashes in Khagrachhari’s Dighinala on Thursday night (September 19).

This development sparked massive protests in Rangamati on Friday morning. During the demonstrations, two local groups locked horns and engaged in clashes. An organisation named Hill Student Movement Against Conflict and Discrimination went to Banorupa area with a procession and vandalised shops, alleging that they were attacked first.

After learning about the attack, the other group carried out a counterattack, during which several shops were set afire. The police and army are working to control the situation.

Meanwhile, the students of various small ethnic groups brought out a procession in Bandarban under the banner of Combined Student Society. Hundreds of students participated holding banners and placards. The procession marched through various streets and ended in front of the press club, where the protesters held a rally.
