Man Beaten To Death Over Dispute On Food Distribution || Photo : Collected
A man was beaten to death reportedly following a dispute over distribution of food (made in the name of God or some saint) at a local mosque in Kishoreganj's Itna upazila.
The victim, Md. Wahab Bhuiyan, 45, passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was son of late Ajgar Ali from Udiarpar Khalpar Hati in the Sadar Union of the upazila.
According to locals, the dispute began on Friday after Jumma prayers after Jumma prayers when a disagreement over the distribution of food (locally called tabarak) escalated. Wahab was later attacked and severely beaten by rivals when found alone on a road, leaving him critically injured.
He was initially taken to a hospital in Kishoreganj General Hospital where doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. He then succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Following the news of Ohab's death, tensions flared between the two groups involved. Security forces, including members of the 15 E-Battalion and local police, were deployed to the scene to maintain law and order. They managed to restore order within an hour, detaining two individuals along with weapons used in the attack.
Nikli Police Station officer-in-charge Zakir Rabbani confirmed the incident and stated that legal proceedings are underway.
