Sajek Visit Discouraged For 3 Days || Photo : Collected
Rangamati’s district administration has discouraged trips to Sajek between Tuesday and Thursday (September 24-26) considering the current situation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
“We took the decision to avert any untoward incident in the existing situation in the hill tracts. But there’s no embargo on tourists,” Rangmati Deputy Commissioner Md Mosharraf Hossain Khan said Tuesday (September 24).
The lynching of a Bengali man on charges of stealing a motorcycle in Khagrachhari’s Dighinala triggered communal clashes in which three people were killed and dozens were injured. The clashes spread to Rangamati, where one person was killed. Dozens of shops and houses were destroyed during the violence.
A group of indigenous students and general people called for a 72-hour blockade in the hill tracts from Saturday, leaving around 1,500 tourists stranded in Sajek. There was a food, water and electricity shortage in Sajek during the blockade.
The stranded tourists left Sajek today.
