6 Held Over Lt Tanzim’s Killing || Photo : Collected
The army has detained six suspects over the killing of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirzon with firearms and ammunition from Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar.
In a handout on Wednesday (September 25), the Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) identified the detainees as Babul Prakash, 44, Helal Uddin, 34, Anowar Hakim, 28, Arif Ullah, 25, Ziabul Karim, 45, and Hossain, 39.
Two locally-made guns, 11 rounds of ammunition, a knife used in the killing, a pickup van and a motorcycle were seized.
“Four of them were directly involved in the killing, while the other two helped them with information. Babul was the financier of the operation. He has initially admitted to stabbing Lt Tanzim,” the ISPR said.
The group’s second-in-command Helal, driver Hakim, armed member Arif, information providers Karim and Hossain have admitted to being directly involved in the incident.
They have been handed over to Chakaria Police Station. ISPR said the army is working to capture others involved in the killing.
What happened that night?
An army team from Chakaria camp rushed to east Maijpara village of Dulahazara union at around 3am on Monday after receiving information about a robbery.
Lt Tanzim chased the robbers as they were attempting to flee. During the pursuit, one of the robbers stabbed him in the neck, causing severe bleeding. He was rushed to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, the ISPR said.
Lt Tanzim, hailing from Tangail, was a student at Pabna Cadet College. He completed the 82nd BMA long course and was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) in June 2022.
