Lieutenant General (Retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Home Advisor, has referred to police officers who have not yet joined as "criminals."
He stated that police members who have not yet reported for duty will be brought under the law. He mentioned that decisions have been made regarding the recruitment of Ansar, police, and BGB, and that announcements for Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment will be made within the next couple of days.
He made these comments while speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Law and Order Committee at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 1).
He noted that the overall law and order situation in the country is not ideal but can be considered satisfactory. Efforts will continue to improve the situation. The conditions in the Chittagong Hill Tracts are also improving, although there are conflicts with groups like the UPDF. These groups are reportedly receiving weapons and training from other areas.
He further stated that the upcoming Durga Puja will be more peaceful than ever before, and all necessary measures will be taken to ensure that. However, there has been no discussion about extending the holiday for the festival.
The Home Advisor also commented that strict actions will be taken against notorious criminals and that the government will become even more stringent in combating drug abuse and smuggling. He emphasized the need to apprehend drug kingpins; without doing so, eradicating drugs will not be possible.
