The Mirpur-10 station of the metro rail is expected to open this October, according to the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
The information was provided by DMTCL sources today, Wednesday, October 2.
According to the company, the Mirpur-10 station was severely damaged during an attack by miscreants amid the anti-discrimination student movement. Nearly all equipment, including the control room, displays, cameras, TVMs (ticket vending machines), and passenger gates, was heavily damaged. Since the systems and designs of these devices are proprietary to the manufacturing company, replacement parts cannot be sourced from other suppliers. Therefore, equipment from stations with relatively low passenger traffic will be relocated and repurposed to get the Mirpur-10 station operational. Additionally, some parts will temporarily be sourced from the training center, reducing costs while also allowing passengers to benefit from the station's services sooner.
Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Managing Director (Acting) of DMTCL, said, "There is a directive from the road advisor to open the Mirpur-10 station as soon as possible. Work is currently ongoing at the station, and it will be operational soon so that passengers can start using it in a short time. We are trying to open the station with minimal costs."
It is worth mentioning that on July 18, during the quota reform movement, a police box in the Mirpur-10 roundabout was set on fire. Later that day, at 5 PM, metro rail services were suspended by the authorities. On August 25, the metro rail was reopened except for the damaged Kazipara and Mirpur-10 stations. The Kazipara station was subsequently reopened on September 20.
