The defendants subject to the travel ban include: former DIG of Rangpur Range Abdul Baten, former Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Mohammad Moniruzzaman, General Secretary of BeroBI Chhatra League Shamim Mahfuz, Office Secretary Babul Hossain, Organizational Secretary Dhananjay Kumar Togar, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tajhat Police Station Robiul Islam, In-Charge of BeroBI Police Outpost Bibhuti Bhushan, Associate Professor Asaduzzaman Mondal, Associate Professor Mashiur Rahman, Officer of the Proctor's Office Robiul Hasan Russell, Deputy Police Commissioner (Crimes) Abu Maruf Hossain, Assistant Police Commissioners Al Imran Hossain and Arifuzzaman, and President of BeroBI Chhatra League Pomel Barua.
On August 18, Abu Sayed's brother, Ramjan Ali, filed a murder case naming 17 individuals and including 30 to 35 unnamed suspects. The case is currently under investigation by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
Among the 17 defendants, ASI Amir Ali and Constable Sujon Chandra Roy have already been arrested. Additionally, another defendant, former Inspector General of Police Abdullah Al Mamun, is currently imprisoned for another case.
The request for a travel ban was made out of concern that the other 14 named defendants might flee the country to evade justice. The court issued the travel ban order on Wednesday.
It is noteworthy that Abu Sayed was shot and killed by police on July 16 in front of the number one gate of Begum Rokeya University. He was the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement at the university.
