The National Citizens' Committee has filed charges against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 30 others at the International Crimes Tribunal, relating to murders in Lakshmipur and Jatrabari.
On Thursday (October 3), the charges were submitted to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal.
It has been reported that on July 18, during the "Complete Shutdown" campaign, Shaheed Sakib Hasan, a student of the B.A. (Pass) course at Dhania College, was murdered near the Kutubkhali Kazla petrol pump in the Jatrabari area. Additionally, on August 4, Shaheed Osman Patwari, also known as Osman Gani, a student at Chittagong Polytechnic Institute, was shot and killed in the North Temuhoni area of Lakshmipur.
The National Citizens' Committee has filed cases in the tribunal seeking justice for these murders. The accused are charged with genocide and crimes against humanity under sections 3(2)(a), 3(2)(g), 3(2)(h), 4(1), and 4(2) of the International Crimes Tribunal Act, 1973. The fathers of the victims, Md. Mortuja Alam and Md. Abdur Rahman, have filed separate cases.
It is reported that there have been 51 complaints submitted to the tribunal regarding killings and genocide during the students' uprising. In all but two of the applications, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been named as the main accused.
In addition, two more complaints have been filed against Sheikh Hasina and 30 others in connection with the murders of Sakib Hasan on July 18 and Osman Gani on August 4. Another complaint related to the death of student Ahnaf near BF Shaheen College in Mirpur on August 4 has also been submitted to the tribunal, with his mother seeking justice for her son's murder. Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam stated that any student involved in the movement can submit complaints and information to the tribunal, assuring that their safety will be ensured.
