Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is arriving in Dhaka today, Friday (October 4), for a brief three-hour visit via Islamabad. This will be the first visit by a Malaysian Prime Minister to Bangladesh in nearly 11 years. It is reported that discussions on politics, economy, and labor market issues will be prioritized during his visit.
Anwar Ibrahim is coming to Dhaka at the invitation of Nobel Laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government. Although brief, his visit will include several important elements.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Malaysian Prime Minister will arrive in Dhaka with a large delegation of 58 members after noon on Friday. He will hold a bilateral meeting with the Chief Advisor of the interim government, followed by a joint press conference between the two leaders.
Additionally, Anwar Ibrahim will pay a courtesy call on Bangladesh's President, Mohammad Shahabuddin. He will depart from Dhaka later in the afternoon.
It is worth mentioning that the last visit by a Malaysian Prime Minister to Dhaka was in November 2013, when then-Prime Minister Najib Razak visited Bangladesh.
