Heavy rainfall throughout the night and the influx of hilly water from Meghalaya, India, have caused the dam of the Maharashi River in Jhenaigati, Sherpur, to breach, resulting in water flooding into low-lying areas.

This has led to the inundation of the riverbanks and surrounding regions. Due to the absence of a protective embankment for the town, water has also entered the local market.

Additionally, water has flooded homes in the low-lying areas, leaving many people in distress. Farmers are worried about the sudden rise in hilly water potentially damaging various vegetable fields and rice crops. Hundreds of fish farms have also been swept away.

However, after 9:30 AM, as the rain began to lessen, water levels in the town started to recede. Typically, the water from these hilly flows drains into the river within 2 to 4 hours.

Furthermore, due to overnight rainfall, the water level of the Bhogai River at Nalitabari Point is currently 56 centimeters above the danger mark, while the Chellakhali River is flowing 525 centimeters above the danger level.

Consequently, numerous villages near the Bhogai River in Nalitabari have been submerged. Continuous rain and flooding have also caused water to enter various neighborhoods in Nalitabari municipality, trapping many residents in their homes due to waterlogging.
