A 23-day travel ban has been imposed on the three hill districts of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari. This ban was confirmed in a directive issued by the relevant district administrations on Sunday (October 6) afternoon.
According to the directive, the ban will remain in effect from October 8 to October 31. However, the specific reasons for this travel ban have not been disclosed.
Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan, the District Commissioner of Rangamati, stated that the directive was issued considering the overall situation in the three hill districts. Additionally, the district administration has discouraged travel to the Sajek Valley indefinitely.
The Bandarban DC noted that, due to unavoidable circumstances, tourists have been requested to refrain from visiting the Bandarban hill district from October 8 to October 31.
Following recent incidents of violence in Rangamati and Khagrachari, a tense situation persists. Multiple sources have claimed that this decision was made in light of ensuring the safety of tourists visiting the hill districts.
Notably, with Durga Puja approaching, hotel and motel businesses in Sajek and Khagrachari had received numerous bookings. As a result of the cancellation of these bookings, businesses in the relevant sector are facing losses.
