In September, there were 392 road accidents across the country, resulting in 426 fatalities. Among these, 179 individuals lost their lives in motorcycle accidents. This information was disclosed in a statement by the private organization Road Safety Foundation on Monday morning.
The report was compiled based on data from nine national dailies, seven online news portals, various electronic media, and the organization's own information. In September, the 392 road accidents led to 426 deaths and 813 injuries. Among the deceased, 61 were women and 53 were children. The motorcycle accidents accounted for 164 incidents, with 179 fatalities, which constitutes 42% of the total deaths, and the rate of motorcycle accidents was 41.83%.
Additionally, 97 pedestrians were killed, making up 22.76% of the total fatalities. Drivers and assistants of vehicles accounted for 54 deaths, or 12.67%. During this period, there were eight boat accidents resulting in 11 deaths, four injuries, and two missing persons. There were also 17 railway accidents that led to 13 deaths and nine injuries.
Looking at the statistics of fatalities based on vehicle type, 179 were motorcycle riders and passengers (42%), 25 were bus passengers (5.86%), 22 were occupants of trucks, pickups, tractors, or trolleys (5.16%), 24 were in private cars or microbuses (5.63%), 63 were passengers of three-wheelers (14.78%), six were passengers in locally made vehicles (1.40%), and 10 were cyclists or rickshaw pullers (2.34%).
A total of 632 vehicles were involved in the accidents. This included 98 buses, 106 trucks, 18 covered vans, 21 pickups, 11 tractors, four trolleys, 10 lorries, seven drum trucks, two oil tankers, one road roller, 16 microbuses, 15 private cars, five ambulances, two Pajeros, 173 motorcycles, and 96 three-wheelers (including auto-rickshaws and vans). Additionally, 18 locally made vehicles (such as Nossimon, Votvoti, and Alamshadhu), 13 bicycles, rickshaws, and other rickshaw vans, and 16 unidentified vehicles were also involved.
