A young man named Kamal Hossain (32) was shot and killed at the Cumilla border by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), who then took his body away.
The incident occurred on Monday evening (October 7) near the Yoshpur Border Outpost in the Galiyara North Union of the South Sadar Upazila. Kamal Hossain was the son of Idu Mia from Kuriyapara village in the same upazila.
Lieutenant Colonel Iftekhar Hossain, the commander of the 10th Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed the incident.
It is reported that Kamal crossed the barbed wire fence and illegally entered India on Monday evening. He was shot by the BSF at the scene and died immediately. Afterward, BSF members transported his body via ambulance.
Lieutenant Colonel Iftekhar Hossain stated that the BSF targeted Kamal Hossain when he entered Indian territory, resulting in his immediate death. He also mentioned that they have communicated with the BSF regarding the return of the youth's body, and it is scheduled to be handed over to them through a flag meeting around 1 PM today.
Rafiqul Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the South Sadar police station, said, “We have heard about the incident. We will gather information and provide further details later.”
Earlier, on June 9, a man named Anwar Hossain was killed while illegally bringing Indian sugar across the border in the Burichong area of Kumilla. His body was taken to India and later returned to the BGB after a flag meeting. Now, four months later, another Bangladeshi has been shot dead by the BSF at the Cumilla border.
