In a case involving the lynching of Taslima Begum Renu on suspicion of child kidnapping in North Badda, Dhaka, the court has sentenced one person to death and four others to life imprisonment.
On Wednesday, October 9, Judge Murshid Ahmed of the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court delivered the verdict.
On July 20, 2019, a mob attacked Taslima Begum Renu in North Badda, suspecting her of being involved in child kidnapping. She was severely injured and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was declared dead by the attending doctors. Following the incident, Renu's nephew Nasir Uddin filed a murder case against 400-500 unidentified individuals at Badda Police Station.
On September 10, 2020, the investigating officer, Inspector Abdul Haque of the DB police, submitted a charge sheet against 15 individuals in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. On April 1, 2021, Judge Fatima Imroz Khonika of the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court framed charges against 13 defendants in the case. Out of 36 witnesses, 19 have testified.
The accused named in the charge sheet include: Ibrahim alias Hridoy Molla, Riya Begum Maina, Abul Kalam Azad, Kamal Hossain, Mohammad Shahin, Bacchu Mia, Mohammad Bappi, Murad Mia, Sohel Rana, Asadul Islam, Bellal Molla, Mohammad Raju, and Mohin Uddin.
Additionally, the accused Jafar Hossain Patoari and Wasim Ahmed are minors, and their cases are being tried in juvenile court.
